Casinos in Shreveport-Bossier City will reopen their doors to patrons beginning the week of May 18 following closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The following casinos are scheduled to reopen on Monday, May 18:

Margaritaville Resort Casino, El Dorado Shreveport, Horseshoe Bossier City, and Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.

Under Phase 1, casinos may only reopen at 25% capacity, with slot machine banks and table games spaced to allow for social distancing. Non-gaming casino amenities, such as restaurants, spas, and ticketed live music events, will be phased-in as is appropriate.

Live thoroughbred racing at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs will resume, initially without spectators, on Saturday, June 6.

No opening information has been provided on Sam's Town in Shreveport as of the morning of Monday, May 18.

A news release from Harrah's provided the following information for their facilities:

The Hotel at Horseshoe is scheduled to re-open on Monday, May 18 with limited rooms and services available. 8 oz. Burger Bar is scheduled to re-open at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18 with strict social distancing protocol in place.

At Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, Fuddruckers will open at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18.The 2020 Thoroughbred Meet will commence Saturday, June 6. The Meet will be run spectator-free until further notice in accordance with sanctions by Governor John Bel Edwards. Other non-gaming offerings, including entertainment, restaurants and bars, will likely be reopened on a phased basis with limited capacity. Subject to government directives, other amenities on property, including ticketed live events, will open in phases, in-line with consumer demand and guidancefrom public health authorities.

Effective immediately, Horseshoe Bossier City and Harrah’s Louisiana Downs will implement Caesars’ new health and safety protocols, which enhance the Company’s existing plans and practices in these areas. Horseshoe and Harrah’s Louisiana Downs are focused on the wellbeing of team members, guests and communities, and will create environments with high standards of cleanliness and social distancing practices to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Among the enhanced health and safety protocols are more-frequent cleaning and sanitization. Employee health checks will be conducted daily, and employees will be required to wear masks, which will be provided by the Company. Guests will be strongly encouraged to wear masks.

A news release from El Dorado Resorts reads:

Eldorado is implementing the Louisiana Gaming Control Board’s regulations that limit gaming positions to 50% of prior levels and patron count at each facility to 25% occupancy of maximum allowable fire code levels.

“As we resume operations at our properties, the health and safety of our team members and guests is our number one priority,” said Anthony Carano, President and Chief Operating Officer of Eldorado Resorts. “We have been working very hard over the last two months to prepare for the reopening of our casinos and we look forward to providing the outstanding service and hospitality experiences Eldorado is known for in a safe manner.”

DiamondJacks Casino & Hotel in Bossier City will not reopen after the state’s mandated casino closure period ends, due to business circumstances caused by the unexpected impact of the coronavirus. All casino employees have been notified and are eligible to apply for unemployment benefits, effectively immediately.

“In light of the sudden, unforeseeable market conditions that have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic, the difficult decision has been made to close the casino,” said Diana Thornton, Vice President of Finance at DiamondJacks. “We have worked diligently to be a valued member of the Shreveport-Bossier City business community. We are saddened for the loss of a longtime business here in Louisiana.”

Local managers are working on a closure plan, which has included contacting employees, vendors, and other key stakeholders. The team will also decide what to do with the casino’s physical assets. The property will be maintained as closure is completed, though there are no plans for new ownership or additional investments to remain open.

“Even though continuing to operate is not viable from a business standpoint, we have certainly enjoyed being a part of the community and appreciate the loyalty of both guests and team members,” said Thornton. “We are thankful for the support everyone has provided us and will do what we can to ensure those impacted transition to new career opportunities.”
